Update

I know that some of you guys may have been wondering what has happened to me or why my Project 365 stopped at Day 82.

There has been a lot of things that has happened in the past months; and I believe that it is not worth mentioning here in my blog since I have dedicated this for my photography, but to put it simple, there will been so much changes. Don’t fret though, as photography is still my passion and soon I will be updating my blog as often as before.

So to my readers, thank you for supporting me in my passion, and I hope you continue to do so.

Project 365 – Day 82

Day 82:

I took this shot at the Hongkong Airport while waiting for my flight. It was a foggy day; the glass I was shooting through fortunately wasn’t that dirty so I was able to get a somewhat clear shot of the outside. To minimize the reflections I needed to stick my camera on the glass.

I used my Sigma 10-20mm lens here opened wide @ 10mm; 3 shots auto-bracketed. Camera was set to Matrix metering; WB set to auto. The final image is a combination of 2 shots blended manually via PS CS4.

Project 365 – Day 80 and 81

Day 81

Day 80

Alright! I’ve finally been able to settle myself and get some rest; It feels so good to be on holiday from work! :D
I’ve been shooting some photos though, but haven’t had time to get them processed; I’ll be posting as much as I can ’til I get back on track.

Day 80 and 81 are shot inside Ibn Battuta mall in Dubai, UAE. The final images are a result of merging 3 bracketed shots to get an HDR image; I used a Sigma 10-20mm glass here in this shots on my Nikon D90.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free. Cheers! More tomorrow. ;)

Project 365 – Day 77

Day 77:

The Address Hotel, Dubai, UAE.

As always, almost all year round, you get only a plain blue sky here in Dubai. You rarely see clouds. :( I could imagine how better this shot could have been with them in the background. Anyhow, this is the hotel opposite of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Ras Al Khaima ‘Breath Taking’ shot.

Lol. This really is literally a breathtaking shot! My bud Mike and I went to Ras al Khaima looking for a heritage village there, but ended up in this abandoned slaughter house with rotting animal corpses!

Project 365 – Day 76

Day 76:

Another HDR again today. ;) This week I have been refining my post-processing work flow, so I have been digging in my vault. There has been a ton of photos I haven’t gotten time to process and post yet; I think this will be the best time to work on them!

This is a photo I took at Ras Al Khaima, UAE; I believe this is an abandoned mosque.

These are 3 shots auto-bracketed on my Nikon D90 with a Sigma 10-20mm glass set to 10mm; merged and tonemapped via Photomatix. I never liked the color, white balance and saturation of a Photomatix merged HDR, so I always need to correct them via Photoshop.

So there you have it, Day 76. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to do so.

Cheers!

Project 365 – Day 75

Day 75:

Ras Al Khaima ‘Breath Taking’ shot.

Lol. This really is literally a breathtaking shot! My bud Mike and I went to Ras al Khaima looking for a heritage village there. But the nitwit who posted the coordinates on the internet  led us to this abandoned slaughter house with rotting animal corpses! It it fortunate though that at least I was able to take some good photos!

Anyways, this has been taken a few months back, and I wanted to practice more on my post-processing skills as to be able to perfect my work-flow for landscapes editing. It took me around approx. 15mins to complete the final image. This involved manually blending 3 images together, an HDR image, an underexposed image and a normal image.

For those who want to know, here’s the EXIF:

Shutter Speed: 1/640
Aperture: f/11
Exposure: Aperture Priority
ISO: 100

Project 365 – Day 74

Note: As to all my photos, you can click the images for a larger view.

Day 74:

Working with Lights.

I have always been wanting to take more portrait shots, however, I get few opportunities. But today, I have been lucky to be able to work on some!

This is my bud Jess. He gladly volunteered to be my model and was very patient as I tried different lighting angles and setup. I took around 40 shots, but have narrowed the selection to the images above.

The first image (topmost), I used a single light on the right side directed at around 75 degrees to the ceiling. On the next image, I have used two (2) lights. I was curious as to what result this would yield. The main light remained in its position with the same power; the 2nd light was my on-camera flash. I have set it just enough to blow the darkness out of the area on his right cheek, and made sure it doesn’t overpower the main flash.

As I was doing the shots, it is worth to note that I didn’t change any settings on my camera, but only the power output of the flashes. On full manual, my shutter speed was at 1/60 sec. and aperture to f/3; I chose f/3 as this gave me a nice depth of field.

Both resulted in really interesting images! I am happy that I have learned something new again today. Project 365 can really be so challenging, but the end result can really be worth it.

By the way, please feel free to post a comment or question. I’ll be glad to answer them.

Project 365 – Day 73

Day 73:

I’m a bit late again today, since I should be posting Day 74. Work load has been high as well in the office, so it really proves to be a challenge. Hopefully, I’ll be back on track tomorrow. ;)

Anyhow, I was messing around at work while doing the preparation of 160 machines to be sent to Cairo with my officemates. I whipped out my camera and started shooting. One of my mates put my camera to full auto and didn’t notice that it was set to that. Lol. So, when I took this photo it was the camera who did all the thinking except for the PoV. It’s really fascinating how sophisticated cameras are now able to decide what ISO, shutter speed, metering and aperture to use!

Anyhow, originally I posted a colour version of this, but my photog bud Mike suggested that it will look better in BW, and it did!

Thanks for visiting!
