Day 74:
Working with Lights.
I have always been wanting to take more portrait shots, however, I get few opportunities. But today, I have been lucky to be able to work on some!
This is my bud Jess. He gladly volunteered to be my model and was very patient as I tried different lighting angles and setup. I took around 40 shots, but have narrowed the selection to the images above.
The first image (topmost), I used a single light on the right side directed at around 75 degrees to the ceiling. On the next image, I have used two (2) lights. I was curious as to what result this would yield. The main light remained in its position with the same power; the 2nd light was my on-camera flash. I have set it just enough to blow the darkness out of the area on his right cheek, and made sure it doesn’t overpower the main flash.
As I was doing the shots, it is worth to note that I didn’t change any settings on my camera, but only the power output of the flashes. On full manual, my shutter speed was at 1/60 sec. and aperture to f/3; I chose f/3 as this gave me a nice depth of field.
Both resulted in really interesting images! I am happy that I have learned something new again today. Project 365 can really be so challenging, but the end result can really be worth it.
By the way, please feel free to post a comment or question. I’ll be glad to answer them.
